Describe:  Duke Kunshan University (DKU) in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China invites applications for a full-time assistant, associate or full professor position in environmental policy beginning in fall of 2014. Successful candidates will be Duke Kunshan University faculty members, with the potential for appropriate consideration for Duke University affiliation. Chinese language proficiency is not required. However, candidates should demonstrate native-like proficiency in English. Candidates should have a PhD degree in public policy, political science, economics, environmental science or a related field, with a focus on environmental policy. The ideal candidate would have research interests related to China and its role in the region/world, and demonstrate, through background or training, an ability to collaborate with other disciplines. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research foci relate to the areas of energy, the urban environment, climate, environmental health, and air or water quality. The successful candidate will have opportunities to collaborate with faculty at Duke University in Durham, NC, as well as with other faculty at DKU. Strong preference will be given to candidates with three years of teaching and some administrative experience. Salary and benefits are competitive and based on experience. Initial appointments are multi-year contracts and are renewable based on academic rigor of research, teaching, curriculum development, professional development and service.

Highlights of expected responsibilities:

- Oversight of and direct participation in undergraduate curriculum development.
- Teach in the environment program at DKU (all courses are taught in English). At least one course should focus on environmental policy in China.
- Coordination and communication with environment programs at Duke University to ensure curriculum rigor and consistency among programs.
- Exploration and development of the foundation for the formation of a graduate program at DKU in environmental policy and related areas.
- Maintenance of strong research agenda.
- Participation in the development of faculty governance procedures at DKU.
- Interest in establishing an environmental research program or center at DKU, and in collaborating with other research centers at DKU.
- Recruitment and oversight of local faculty instructors.
- Interface with academic, government, private sector, and media entities in China.
