Describe:  Duke Kunshan University (DKU) in Kunshan, Jiangsu, China invites applications for a full-time assistant, associate or full professor position in economics beginning in fall of 2014. Successful candidates will be Duke Kunshan University faculty members with the potential for appropriate consideration for Duke University affiliation. Chinese language proficiency is not required, however, candidates should demonstrate native-like proficiency in English. Candidates should have a PhD in economics or related field with subfields open. The ideal candidate would have research interests related to DKU’s location in the rapidly developing Yangtze delta region and China more generally. Three years of teaching and administrative experience are required. Salary and benefits are competitive and based on experience. Initial appointments are multi-year contracts and are renewable based on academic rigor of teaching, curriculum development, professional development and service.

Highlights of expected responsibilities:

- Oversight and direct participation in undergraduate course development.
- Coordination and communication with the economics program at Duke University to ensure curriculum rigor and consistency between the two programs.
- Teaching in the economics program at DKU (all courses are taught in English). At least one course should be related to China’s economic development model, current economic reforms and the opening of Chinese markets, China’s role in the region.
- Participation in the development of faculty governance procedures at DKU.
- Supervision of the development and management of the economics program web site.
- Exploration and development of the foundation for the formation of graduate programs at DKU in economics and related areas.
- Interest in establishing a research institute related to Chinese economic development and or development issues more generally.
- Recruitment and oversight of local faculty instructors.
- Interface with the academic and business community in China.
- Development of policy oriented publications for the local media.
