Last Call for Nominations for the CES Officers 2009

Dear CES Members:

Earlier this year, a call went out for nominations for a new CES president-elect and six board directors. The president-elect will assume office from September 1, 2010 to August 31, 2011. The board of directors will work with President Yongmiao Hong from September 1, 2009 to August 31, 2010.

The CES Nomination and Election Committee (NEC) consists of three immediate former-presidents as voting members and the current president-elect as a non-voting member.

The NEC oversees the nomination and election process. The general procedure is as follows:

(1) To be eligible for President, a candidate must have been a Member of CES for more than two years, must have served as a member of the Board of Directors for at least one term, and must work primarily in North America during the presidential term.
(2) Anyone with valid CES membership can be nominated to serve as a board director. The majority of the Board of Directors must work primarily in North America during their term.
(3) CES members can nominate one candidate for president-elect and no more than six candidates for the board of directors. The nominator must have the consent of the nominee for the nomination and should provide bio information on all candidates nominated. Any candidate on the ballot for the election must be nominated by at least two CES members.

We already have quite a few good candidates, but it was brought to my attention that perhaps a final call is warranted in case some that wanted to serve had missed the earlier chance. If you are interested in serving, or know someone that is willing and qualified, please contact the NEC (jackhou@csulb.edu) immediately. All nominations must be received by May 13, Wednesday. The NEC will be in contact with nominees for their Bio and Statement before presenting a list of candidacy to the CES membership for consideration.

We would like to urge all of you to participate in the election. Your active involvement is important to the success of the CES.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Jack W. Hou, NEC, 2009, jackhou@csulb.edu
Haizheng Li, NEC voting member, haizheng.li@econ.gatech.edu
Xiaobo Zhang, NEC voting member, X.ZHANG@CGIAR.ORG
Yongmiao Hong, NEC non-voting member, yh20@cornell.edu
Shuming Bao, NEC non-voting member, sbao@umich.edu
